FAQs
The Missile V3 Ignition Leather Jacket is designed primarily for use with the Tech-Air® 7x airbag system and is optimized around its structure, fit, and deployment characteristics. It is also Tech-Air® Ready, meaning it can physically accommodate other Tech-Air® systems. However, systems such as the Tech-Air® 5 Plasma, Tech-Air® 5 V2, or Tech-Air® 3 V2 are not the intended match for this jacket. Due to differences in garment design—particularly in terms of internal volume, length, and coverage—the fit and performance may not be fully optimized when using these systems. Compatibility therefore depends on overall fit and intended use, but for the best integration and performance, the Tech-Air® 7x remains the recommended system for the Missile V3 Ignition.
The "Ignition" designation refers to the colorway: Black/Red Fluo/Dark Red racing livery. The Missile V3 Ignition is identical in construction, materials, armor specification, and Tech-Air compatibility to the standard Missile V3. There is no difference in protection level or feature set between variants — only the graphic treatment differs.
Under the CE EN 1621-1:2012 standard, Level 2 protectors must absorb at least twice the impact force of Level 1 protectors in standardised drop tests (transmitted force ≤25kN at Level 2, vs ≤50kN at Level 1). In the Missile V3 Ignition, this is delivered by Nucleon PLASMA Pro armor: a viscoelastic compound that deforms under impact, spreads the load across a wider area, and then returns to its original shape. The result is significantly greater impact protection at the shoulder and elbow while maintaining a thin, flexible profile.
No. The jacket includes dedicated chest and back compartments accepting Alpinestars Nucleon chest and back protector inserts (sold separately). At this protection tier, Alpinestars recommends adding the Nucleon KR-1 or KR-2 back protector or Nucleon Plasma particularly for circuit use where the jacket is combined with the Tech-Air 7x system.
The Missile V3 Ignition is designed for:
- Track days and circuit sessions in Italy where Level 2 armor is required or strongly recommended
- High-performance sport naked and superbike riding where MotoGP-derived Level 2 protection is the priority
- Pairing with the Alpinestars Tech-Air® 7x airbag system and Supertech R10 helmet for a fully integrated Alpinestars protection system
- Riders upgrading from a mid-tier jacket (Force V2, Atem V5) who want the highest passive protection standard without a full race suit
It is not designed for:
- Riders who own Tech-Air® 5 or Tech-Air® 5 Plasma: the Missile V3 Ignition requires Tech-Air® 7x. For Tech-Air 5/3 compatibility, see GP Force V2 or Atem V5
- All-year touring or wet weather use: the Missile V3 is a race-focused jacket without a waterproof membrane. For year-round protection, see the Andes V3 Drystar
